International Women's Day

Everyday is women's day but March 8th is a special day, it is the official International Women's Day. International Women's Day is a worldwide event that honors women's social, economic, cultural, and political achievements. The day also serves as a call to action for achieving gender justice sooner rather than later. Globally, there is a lot of action as people come together to celebrate women's accomplishments or to rally for women's equality. It was first celebrated in 1911, about 110 years ago. The colors of International Women's Day are purple, green, and white. Purple is the color of fairness and integrity. Green is the color of hope. White signifies purity of the soul, using the full capacity of your mind.

"The story of women's struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist, nor to any one organization, but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights." -Gloria Steinem

The quote above is from world-renowned feminist, journalist and activist Gloria Steinem. If you ask yourself what you can do on the International Women's Day the answer is easy. Make it your day and do what you can to make a real difference in the lives of women. There are so many different ways in which you can participate and no effort is too small to be recognized.
