PLANET IX: The Gamebook

This article was written for CROWD magazine vol 4. 2021.

The PLANET IX final weekly PIX drop wrapped up last month, with people from all over the world buying up PIX and building their portfolios. PLANET IX has more than 175,000 registered users worldwide, all vying for superiority in this new virtual world.

For the uninitiated, PLANET IX is a block-chain-based strategy and trading game with a virtual copy of Earth as its playing field. The developers describe it as a digital version of Monopoly, together with an unlimited number of players ,where instead of streets and properties, your goal is to acquire virtual land parcels called PIX.

The PLANET IX beta has been running since July with exclusive access for Crowd1 Affiliates. NIBIRU, the developers behind PLANET IX hope that the full functionalities of the game will launch later this year, but in the meantime, the team have been building a community of players through gamer chat app Discord, and teasing new info on their YouTube channel.

NIBIRU are committed to transparency about the economic structure and gameplay systems that will drive the experience, a vital quality in a game designed to allow people to earn real currency while they play. It’s this commitment to the idea of transparency that has brought about the PLAN-ET IX gamebook which will contain everything a player needs to succeed in this new virtual world.

“If you’re totally new to the concept of NFT or blockchain based gaming it’s a great way to get an introduction and read up on the different types of terminology, and also see the different functionalities of the game.” Felix Bengtsson, the architect of the game’s crypto economy, said during a PLANET IX Open Talks on the game’s YouTube channel.

The PLANET IX gamebook, available at game-book.planetix.com, is the essential guide to PLANET IX, outlining in greater detail the concepts and mechanics that make up the game. The gamebook is a living organism, constantly evolving and being updated by the team at NIBIRU, so it’s important that players check in regularly to see what has changed to make best use of this resource.

The gamebook is only available in English at the time of writing, but in a PLANET IX Open Talk
on YouTube, Head of Community ChristopherJeansson said that plans were in place for Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Vietnamese and Russian translations, and told players how they can have a hand in shaping this evolving document: “If we see a demand for something [on our Discord channel] we will do what we can to create what is needed.” There’s currently a poll in the PLANET IX Discord channel asking players which languages would be desirable.

Invites to the Discord channel are available through the PLANET IX website and is the ideal place to swap strategy ideas with other players, learn from each other, and keep up to date with news and insight from NIBIRU. As the game isin beta, with mechanics such as developing PIX and transforming them into non-fungible tokens(NFTs), and the actual marketplace, still in the pipeline, the Discord channel and the gamebook will be the best place to keep up with the new developments.

Christopher Jeansson added: "The marketplace isunder development, our sustainable partnerships are beginning to form and to be made official, the blockchain implementation is developing, our PIX token is also in progress, and the first NFTs will be dropped soon. It's safe to say we are only getting started and the next coming months will be out of this world."

The game’s first NFT, the Golden Bridge in Vietnam is now live. A beautiful 3D rendering of the landmark is available to view at planetix.com/landmarks, but the token is listed as unowned at the time of writing.
