Spotlight: Angelo Black

Every month, leaders are stepping up and working harder than ever to educate, recruit, and most of all, inspire. It is because of people like them that make Crowd1 the incredible network that it is. This is a chance to get to know the people behind the success.

What is your background like?

I was the eldest of 4 children and my mom moved us around a lot. I went to 14 different primary schools. Wherever and however she could make money to help us survive, she did. In my corporate life I was an introvert–I couldn’t talk to people. I ended up going into IT. My mom passed away about 16 years ago from AIDS. Life was not easy. I could have been a victim of my circumstances, but I decided I never wanted to be in that situation again.

“The people who inspire me are the newest leaders in our team.”

Has there been any challenges? Yes there has. I have had to travel to different parts of the country where I have heard from my members where people are not working the business properly. I took it upon myself to check on these members who are not selling this correctly. The challenges come in when some leaders are not running with this the correct way, it starts affecting the teams. Even with the negativity in the media and with these guys fuelling the fire. I think the biggest challenge for us is to get the new members to understand the concept. In my eyes, if someone shows me a negative review, I tell them to get onto our Zoom call and see the information and check it out.

If you could coach your younger self, what would you tell them?

To not be afraid. Don’t be afraid of being hurt and being let down. To enjoy life because every knock is going to make you stronger and grow you into the person you are going to be one day. But it depends on what decisions you make. If I had come out of my shell earlier in my life, I don’t know where I would be today. I am grateful for where I am today because everything in my life has led me to this moment, to being where we are right now.

What is the best gift you have given someone?

My wife’s dad passed away in May 2020. He was 85 and he had Parkinson’s. He saw how we were struggling and he was helping us out, lending us money. I had made a promise to him 7 years ago, when we married, to look after his baby girl. During this bad time, I felt I had broken my promise to him. Sitting next to him on his deathbed and seeing him know that he could go in peace because his baby girl is being looked after. I had kept my promise after all. That is the best gift I have given someone.

Who inspires you?

Wow! The people who inspire me are the newest leaders in our teams. The Team Leader 1 Star. That is why I wake up in the morning, just to see who has hit a rank. The reason they inspire me is because they have taken action, they have changed their lives. They see where Crowd1 is going and they want to change their lives. No one else can inspire you more than that. I have had many mentors like Matt Morris, John Wormly, Anthony Roberts. But the guys who have started in Crowd1, they have inspired me to get up every morning because I know that they need me as well. Even though they might be 10 generations down, I want to know their names. I want to give them recognition.
